Halloween is ancient. It is modern. It is funny, scary, festive and frightening. It is an outlet of creativity for both young and old throughout the world. It is also the herald of fall and the harvest, signaling the approach of cooler weather and that special change in the air that comes with it - that certain crispness that announces the time of celebration. It reminds us of youth and carefree spirits, for it's the time when the average person gets to be someone, or someTHING else! Let CdH take you on a musical journey, transporting you to another time and place, where sideshows and gypsy carnivals would perform on a clearing just outside of town, right in front of the deep, dark woods. Perhaps oil lamps or candlelight lead you to a big top tent, where both wonders and horrors await! All of this is Cirque du Horror. A little fright, a little laughter, with a touch of eye of newt and tail of rat. Come and feast your eyes and ears under the magic of the "big top."
In 2009, Denton composer David J Anzaldua Pierce set out to create a Halloween Musical featuring some of the very best of Denton's home-grown talent, along with some of the very finest visual and performing artists in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Heralded as "the start of something wonderful and just a bit macabre, with atmospheric, cinematic and animated orchestrations," Cirque is an ever evolving musical production. Always writing new material, Pierce hopes to draw more and more fans to Cirque's performances, providing wholesome Halloween entertainment for all. Pierce serves as an active member of the Denton and DFW musical community, serving as a working musician, composer, arranger, and creator/executive director of Denton's Day of the Dead Festival. Over the years, Pierce's work has been performed by groups of all kinds : professional orchestras, choirs, wind bands, jazz ensembles, as well as churches, schools and many recording projects of all genres over the years.
